We often hear about omega 3s when talking about food and nutrition. But what exactly are they and why are they so good for us? Fish oil appears to be protective of the heart. It also has a blood thinning effect, therefore minimising the risk of blood clots as well as reducing fats in the blood, making cholesterol build-up less likely. Omega 3's are known as essential fatty acids or EFA’s because the body cannot make them, and so they need to be eaten regularly in the diet. It is suggested that we eat at least two portions of oily fish a week. However fish isn't for everyone and therefore food supplements are often a good choice to make sure you are getting enough:
